LD - appalling - I feel angry for you!
Big G - that’s so difficult. As others have said, please use this thread to vent and look after yourself.

LMH, yes, the plan is certainly to get him a mobility scooter but I think it may be a few weeks yet before he's at the stage before he would make use of one.

I went down to the hospital yesterday and as I went in he was just finishing up his exercises with the physio. I can see he's really trying with them, and a few of the comments from him later were along the lines of "I must do what the physio tells me, even if it's tough", and that came without any prompting from me. It was actually nice to see a bit of fight in him, as the last couple of weeks he's understandably been very, very down. I think he knows that if he wants to get home and be somewhat independent there he needs to build his strength, so I felt that was a positive visit really. There's a long, long way to go yet and I know we'll have lots of ups and down along the way, but I'll take a positive visit and a bit of hope at this stage!

Rehab hospitals can be great for motivating people Big_G, they are very focussed on promoting recovery and as much independence as possible.

Positive visits are always good news :-)

Just had an apologetic call from the care home finance office. They agree that the error was wholly theirs (I'd given them all the correct information and they input it wrongly on their system) so, quite rightly, they will write it off. But what a shambles.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
