Thanks Ice. The taper, yeah, that's what its called isn't it?
Looks like this thing will take me 4.5 hours - I keep telling myself that (for the first one) the time doesn't matter...

Honestly, time does NOT matter for your first. Mine took 5hrs and a few seconds. It did not go well and I swore I would never do it again. But here I am queuing up for #3 and really excited

Hey, I'm running Edinburgh this year. Did the Keswick Half marathon this weekend as a bit of a fitness test/long temp run. I've heard it's a flat course, but you can get caught out with the wind. How has everyone else found it?

The two Edinburgh marathons have been done in Costa Del weather, sunny-hot and no wind. the last couple of years have had a strong wind in the last 7 miles. So, it could be anything.
Im doing the EDB-NB race this weekend, and it has an easterly wind all the way there. 20 miles...head wind! fricking awesome.

It's Scotland so wind is quite likely; I think the prevailing wind is from the West which on balance, is in our favour but in reality means we turn into it for the last few miles. I run in all kinds of weather and it's not that different from running uphill - that's probably the best way to prepare for it in any case. And if we get a nice, not-too-hot, calm day, with no rain, that's just a bonus Anything over 10C and I'll be suffering!

I just stalked your race times, baz, and the phrase "fucking hell" escaped my lips. Just as well tribabies are at school.
