Beer and ice cream, can't beat that at the finish line! ![]() This might make the marathon ordeal slightly easier! |

Roll the two into one with a flickr.com beer-flavoured ice-cream? that was the finish of the Round Norfolk Relay a few years back.

Since I have about as much chance of walking on the moon as I do of getting round this marathon, I've cancelled my hotel booking. So if anybody is still in need of a room, swoop quickly and you might get it. It was here: premierinn.com |

It's a shame; thought I was over the knee problems, but they came back when I started pushing long runs up beyond 10 miles again. Maybe next year.

This is the first time I've done Edinburgh. Are the buses really as bad as the comments in this thread suggest. I've bought a return ticket to the finish for my partner (supporting me) and a ticket back into the city for me.

I was perusing the London blogs and someone mentioned "barely elbow room" most of the way round. Is Edinburgh like that? I'm not particularly fast (aiming for just shy of 4hr) but I'll struggle if it's crowded as I'm used to running alone. Is there space at Edinburgh to get into one's stride. (Johns, no idea about the buses but I got a ticket too and now I'm worried. I'm not amused that it is "just 15 minutes" from the finish line. That's 2k that's going to kill us at the end of a marathon!) |

Having just completed my first London marathon, I can confirm that there's much more room at Edinburgh. There's a couple of pinch points (Joppa and Fisherrow spring to mind), but I've never experienced anything like I had yesterday. Clashing elbows were the least of it!

Icelandic Trigirl, I've just been reading blogs and they mention the long walk to the buses and the fact that the local service buses are cheaper. Will have to tell my better half that if the queues for the bus to the finish are too big, get on a train or service bus and we'll do the same on the way back. Could well be writing off the bus tickets already paid for.
