I fit two parts of jacs' description...
Good to see some people had a good run yesterday. Sarabop, nice meeting you yesterday and a fine marathon debut there.

disappointed to say that I did not take my own advice and purchased crappy shoes off the internet. My dreams of a sub 4.30 marathon ruined as my shoes turned on me

4.54 in the end. :0(
This means I have to do another one this year now. :0(
Goddamit.
At least my fueling troubles in the past are sorted now and the engine is fine with the mileage. :0)
Just back from run & become with shiny new gutties. :0)
Marathon training continues.
It was my first ever 'big' race and I loved it.

There are loads of determined, inspirational people doing great things.
However hobbling to Wallyford to queue for ages and ages to get on a bus that took almost an hour to bounce out of every pothole back into Edinburgh pretty much destroys one's soul.

Regarding the buses... The major reason for the length of time to get back to th city centre was that the police had closed part of main A1 in Edinburgh following a murder, causing a major diversion and delays for all traffic heading back into townhouse the east. But I'll agree that the location and cost of the official bus service was pretty poor. The costs of food and drink in the finish area was eye-watering as well.

Thanks Badger, good to meet you too. FF the walk to the bus was horrid, and the bus ride took a couple of hours as the roads were congested due to a murder apparently!

Re: the finish area.

Until they move the finish back into Edinburgh - Holyrood Park was perfect - then there will always be a problem with buses and access.

I appreciate there may be reasons for the finish being miles out of town but that doesn;t make it any easier to get home as a runner or as a spectator.

Over the last few years, we ( ie Fetchies on this thread and its predecessors) have commented on the many failings, shortcomings and fair comment criticisms of the Edinburgh Marathon.

This year I saw it for the first time as a spectator and I saw lots of people enjoying themselves, including many people from Europe and further afield.
The race has its limitations but I think it is now about as good as it can be within them

ALthough the finish in holyrood park would resolve the transport issues, it would make the last 6 miles a long uphill drag and impact their USP of being a pretty fast route

Re the finish area, what was with the high fencing and black out screens in the final 100 yards or so to the finish line??

There was very little opportunity for supporters and OH's to see their runner finishing, especially if you are under 10 feet in height. The only peeps who could see much were the MacMillan supporters in the pen and the V.I.P tent which was empty when we walked passed it.
