It just occurred to me that until I started parkrunning, I'd only done two 5K races. But now I've done 30-odd parkruns, I can't envisage actually *paying* to enter an organised 5K road race. For one thing, why pay when parkrun is free; for another, it's such a short distance that I don't really feel like paying to enter.
What about *you*?

I raced one once and it was so horrible I have no desire to race one again, not even for free, but I guess I might do Guildford parkrun sometime.

parkrun isn't a race! It's a time trial I still like to run a 5k race and luckily have the Peterborough Summer series.

But how is it a time trial if you're racing at the same time as other people and someone wins?

We have a monthly 5k up and down the prom dodging chavs in noisy cars during the winter. It's two quid to enter and it's on a club night, so it makes sense. We ain't got a Parkrun yet. Had a look at a few routes, but there's actually nothing that appeals too much.
I certainly won't commute and pay good money for a race that short. Before I started the prom running I did two "5k" races, both Run for Moore. My first race ever was a Run for Moore, actually, and it was over 200 miles from home!

parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.

The Serpie LFOTM is a good one... 5k and only a couple of quid to enter. At lunchtime.

I got my PB at the December LFOTM. It sells out pretty quickly though if you ever want to do it...

didn't lord fetch do a newsletter stats-attack piece on this not long ago? I think his graph showed that the number of 5ks had fallen through the floor since the start of parkrun. 'irregular distances' were up too - most of them are trail races, avoiding the increasing difficulty of securing road closures. and the 10k and half marathon continue to grow I think.

We don't have a local park run as yet and unless it was very local I also wouldn't travel get far for such a short distance.
I would however love to do park runs if anyone would just see fit to get one going in the north Essex area that would be good
