Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Welcome back AL.

Newt for me today is a bit of a game changer, a they say. I heard that some people eat kiwi fruit with the skin on. I had never thought of this, assuming that the skin would be too tough to be palatable, and always peeling it with a knife or scooping the flesh out, therefore they weren't suitable for eating while out and about. I gave it a try with the skin on and it was fine. Not tough at all, so these fruits will now be much easier to eat. I shan't be trying the same with bananas or oranges.

No, it's interesting, Becca. I never peel apples, can't imagine many people do... there must be more fruits with edible skins. I eat lemon peel once it's cooked and also when I use (raw) zest. I always assume with most fruit and veg the most nutrition is nearest the skin.

The thing about "all the goodness being just under the skin" is a myth. When I eat fruit, I tend to eat skins, cores and stalks because it's easier than finding somewhere to dispose of them. Not banana skins or peach stones, though.

I have never had a tree growing inside me.

You mean I've been deceived all these years V-rap? I always thought skin of fruit and veg was good for you (if it's edible)

I'm not sure about the goodness either but the skin does have more fibre. Not that I'm ever likely to lack that.

The skin's mostly nutritionally neutral provided it hasn't been sprayed with stuff that's *not* good for you.
