Where can I read about this... I'm stunned! Well stunned's a bit strong. If it's a myth how did it come about?...it's pretty widespread after all.

I'm going to add something to the discussion which may make you lot seem relatively normal.
We bought custard the other day (not new) and QP requested fish fingers and custard a la Dr Who. So today, in an attempt to cheer the grumpy bugger up, I purchased some fish fingers. Needless to say QP actually wussed out of dipping them in his custard, but I didn't. Not totally disgusting but unlikely to be repeated.

Velociraptor
When asked what he wanted for his tea, my dad's standard response used to be, "Kippers and custard." I don't think he ever got his bluff called, but family legend says that my mother's brother once ate stewed rhubarb with tomato ketchup on it for a bet. Be warned, he's dead now

Surelynot
That was my Dad's response to being asked what he wanted to eat as well, Velociprpator. He used to juice spring onions so a bit out there with his food habits.
