The observing things en route can be the newt, thanks Sharkie. I'm already going out once a day for a run, walk or (since yesterday) a bike ride. I've taken to listening to podcasts or audiobooks when out so I'll leave the headphones at home and listen to nature.

Better and better Gimme. Then record/relate/recount in some way once you are home.

Sorry MazzyH, and thank you!

Bonus newt thing for me today is sharing a name with someone else. This is not a thing that’s ever happened to me before!

A new new thing every single day? I mean, it sounds good, but I lack imagination and can't even think of one thing for day 1!

CC2 New things don't have to be big things and can be new for this spring so if you have a tree near you that always comes into blossom in the spring the day you first see it this spring can be that day's new thing.

You don't have to do a New Thing every day, CC but it's surprising how many things occur once you get going.

The things don't have to be big - start a new book, listen to some new music ( I listened to the entire top thirty last year - not all at once - something I probably hadn't done since my early teens. It was interesting if not always life enhancing exactly.)

It can also be noticing stuff - first time this year you see certain flowers, or trees come into leaf.

Eat something new, turn your work space around, do something with your 'wrong' hand. Throw something away - creates new space after all.

Lent has a special and specific meaning to Christians but has become an secular season of denial and hair shirting that serves no positve purpose. No chocolate, no booze, no -er - other stuff.

Why not treat the build up to Easter - as a chance to celebrate and embrace NEW THINGS - that's what spring is about after all.

The first few pages of the thread give more ideas.
