And, sorry I'm a bit late, but my chosen newt of the day goes back a page or several.

It's Linds on March 31st:
I've got a great newt but it's not really mine. The learning mentor from LittleD's school just called to say how happy she is with her progress this term and to tell me that she's been awarded 12 credits for good behaviour. What a lovely thing to do.

Now this IS Linds newt. And it's perfect in many ways. LittleD (teen) has had a tough time at school for quite a while. I'm sure Linds won't mind me saying this. Not bullied or anything like that - more like in bloody trouble all the time (for fuck all mainly). LittleD not happy, Linds not happy. Linds has had to keep the faith, which is hard.

Spring is about new beginnings - but most of them are rooted in what's gone before. Don't want to sound soppy but blackthorn blossom doesn't come from nowhere.

At the start of our anti Lent campaign I came across a quote I'd not read before, from Antoine Lavoise, one of the founders of modern chemistry:

Nothing is created and nothing is destroyed, but everything is transformed

Gotter love and admire a transformation. Those fairy godmothers (and real life mothers) don't make nothin' from nothin'.

Repainting the living room for the first time since 2008 :-O

Still in the preparation phase - cleaning and filling the cracks.

Can’t decide what colour to go with though. Flip flopping between cornflower white and rock salt. The cornflower is very slightly greyer. Replacing magnolia which we’re now bored of!

We now have just three days left (bit less tbh) to spring load.

I suggest we abandon any time frame for Newts of the Day. Let's have loads! As soon as you notice you are picked, pick someone else as soon as you reasonably can. The thread moves fast -hurrah- so there will always be enough to pick from. AND, don't forget, you can pick anything from Ash Wednesday onwards.

now ...where's Linds when you need her?

[PS but tell your daughter not to rule out slings for larger kids. They are really useful for the toddler stage, too, (carry me!) and Mum gets stronger as baby grows if you still sling regularly. I slung LittleD until she wouldn't let me any more, which I think was ca. 2.5. Sorry if advice is unwanted and pls do ignore]

About This Thread

starblackheartstar The sixth running of Do a New Thing for Spring starblackheartstar

Lent has a special and specific meaning to Christians but has become an secular season of denial and hair shirting that serves no positve purpose. No chocolate, no booze, no -er - other stuff.

Why not treat the build up to Easter - as a chance to celebrate and embrace NEW THINGS - that's what spring is about after all.

The first few pages of the thread give more ideas.
