To be fair, M1nty, it's hard to find a good reason to do the 33 especially if it's going to hurt, so by that logic, you might as well do the 99 and have some new trails to look forward to. If I hadn't said I'd support the mrs, there's a good chance that's what I'd be doing. In any event, I think there will be a lot of great people there and I'm hoping for a ceilidh at Ballater.

M1nty we're planning to recce the Ballater loopy bit with our run chat group soon if you fancy joining us? I could keep you posted re dates. We're also planning to recce the Scolty bit.

Anyone else on here would be most welcome. Fenners I realise you live down South, do you think you'll make it up for a recce?

Duthie Park, how romantic is Shanksi?

A recce run of the new bits sounds a great idea Mrs S, yes if you can please keep me posted if this becomes a plan. Thanks very much.

It will be a sad day to see Loon Dod and Lintie hang up their D33 boots. They've made it into a great event from Day 1 onwards. And it's lovely to come up every year and meet all the old friends.

Today we parked at Scolty and ran out n back on the route, not quite getting to Potarch. The section through the woods from Shooting Greens to Potarch is lovely and it was great running on a gentle downhill with views over the Dee to the bridge. The climb back up Scolty Hill the back way felt steep, but doesn't go on for too long. This is going to be one of the best sections of the race I reckon.

We had a fab day running the 15 mile 3 looped section of the D99 route. The first hill Craig Coillich was similar to Scolty Hill, not too steep but it was a longer climb. Running down the other side was good fun. Then there was a long section on road which made my knee niggle a bit. Then back in to Ballater, past the cafe (boo), and on to Craigendarroch Hill. This was much steeper and I did a 34 min mile here. Was very slow coming down the other side as it was technical and a miss step could see you falling quite far. Dread to think how tough this is going to be in the dark after having run 50 miles.

Such a shame this section will be in the dark as it was beautiful. I am so glad I've entered the race as supported.

Ive just signed up for 2019.

I just hope the weather will be nicer in 2019. This year was, how can I describe it. I know, "character building."

Happy New Year everyone.
