Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Sounds right to me too. I often use an lbs for the jobs I *can* do but only after it's taken me a week to work out what parts I need, a few days for it to be delivered, another few days til I find time to do the job etc etc! I've got one of my bikes booked in for a service next week because they'll do a much better job than I've got time and patience for.

Good information. I have been doing an increasing amount of work on the local communities' bikes and it's about time I started charging properly for it. On a couple of occasions I've not only fixed their bikes for free, but also paid for the parts! It can't go on.

I had a friend who did all my bike maintenance. Sadly his mechanical skills turned out to be his only redeeming quality and his twattish behaviour was not worth the free bike fettling. I shall be going back to the LBS to have bottom bracket looked.

Nobody has yet accused me of twattish behaviour, I suppose there's time yet.

My gravel bike has an issue. I think it’s the free hub. Initially it was making a horrible grinding when I was free wheeling. Today the chain felt like it was catching when I stopped pedalling (I think the hub jamming maybe). I’m taking it to the LBS tomorrow but would like to go in with an idea of what’s wrong.

Agree. Sounds like the freehub for sure.

Sounds like the free hub pawls not moving properly. It can quickly go from mildly annoying to throwing the chain off every time you slow your pedalling (as happened with a heavily abused commuter of mine). Depending upon the hub I think it should be fairly easy for a LBS to overhaul though.

Freehubs can be funny things HP. Use the wrong lubricant in some of them and they very quickly get "sticky" and do exactly what you described, whenever I am forced to service them I usually wash them off in surgical spirit to guarantee all the gunge is removed.
