Bangladesh actually have the hottest new limited overs seamer in the world - Mustafizur - the Fizz. Was the star this year for Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL winning team. He was injured for this series though.

I had a terrible dream....

We were winning, then we had tea and a twister came and blew us away and....

We're not in Leeds anymore

We flippin' murdered 'em 1-1.

Actually fancy us (a bit...) against India - this was Bangladesh's great chance, a series they have been waiting for, preparing for, really wanted to win more than anything. They did well, and caught us out second test.

India will not be quite the same, on paper better, but I still get the feeling they are like the England football team - far more interested in domestic league (IPL) than International test fixtures.

We have a shot, lessons hopefully will be learnt and Balance should be on a plane home which will make us stronger even if we bat Tufnell instead at 3......

Atherton might not be everyone's cup of tea, but sometimes he's prepared to go out on a limb and think the unthinkable.

He seems to think [those of you of a nervous disposition had better sit down at this point] that there may be an argument for considering a re-evaluation of the validity of including persons other than Gary Ballance for the forthcoming series - even if this means that, in extremis, Mr Ballance himself might not play.

Fanciful stuff.

TRO 13,754 is trememndous. And an interesting x-post with my summation of Mr Atherton's musings.

This last series has demonstrated again the principle of momentum in cricket. Once a team starts to collapse, it seems impossible to halt the slide. Bearing this in mind, would we be better dropping Ballance and not replacing him with anyone?

The non existent batsman could not field at second slip when the ball is reversing.
And he could also not stop a single at mid off to the spinners.

I agree that Ballance should go, but one poor player does not a collapse make.
The worry is that in all the vitriol poured out against Ballance, they forget to look at what else went wrong

It went wrong before the toss. Ansari for Batty was nuts. We had absolutely no control with the ball throughout unless Stokes/Woakes were bowling - and we had to not flog them into the ground. Bangladesh were going at 4-5 per over on a rank turner. At 170-1on day one the match was pretty much already gone - we spent the rest of the match playing catch-up, just about managed it at 100-0 in the 4th innings and then collapsed again. If there had been any semblance of control with the ball, we probably would have won it.

If Bangladesh's batsmen found scoring that easy against our spinners, imagine what Kohli and co will do. And Ashwin will have an absolute field day. India will want to avenge their series defeat from 4 years ago - I think they'll be focused.

Looking at the pure stats Mr Ballance is the star player in terms of negative contribution. Steven Finn could have been a contender if only he'd been given a chance to do bugger all in the first game. Stellar non-contribution in the second.
