Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Whilst, as a Yorkie, even I am slightly surprised to see Ballance in the team, I don't think it's fair with some of the criticism on here:

Test record: 15 matches, 1194runs, 47.76 average, 4 hundreds, 6 50s....

Far better than Hick or Ramps..

Ballance started his Test career like a train, but got progressively worse. His season's county average is what? Mid 30s? He's not suggested that his 'pin me on the crease and trap me lbw' footwork is now completely behind him either.

There is a tendency (not on here, I think, but with the public at large) to consider everyone either 'great' or 'rubbish.' Ballance is certainly a very good player, but not in excellent form and I'm surprised that one of the several other 'possibles' wasn't given preference.

Yes, I agree CH. I'm surprised they didn't go for Jason Roy given his form in the ODIs - he could have batted at 3.

Do you reckon they are separating out the ODI and test team whenever possible, due to the weight of cricket being played?

I also think it is a sign of things to come that Anderson is injured, again (how much did he miss in the winter?), by no means is he breaking down totally, but it's the little niggles and slowly it all catches up......

Pakistan win toss and bat. Sunny day at Lord's; a good toss to win.

Jake Ball gets the nod over Toby, disappointingly. People called Toby belong in the England cricket team....

Jake will get plenty of bowling over the next day and a half I'd imagine....
