Another cracking win! Mind you, it helps when their last man decides to play the ball with the wrong side of the bat.

Yep, lovely stuff again.

Let's hope the actual arrival of Bayliss doesn't arse things up, Farbrace has done bloody well. Not sure he will remain No 2 for long, he'll be getting job offers after this stint is added to the CV.

Time to think about the Ashes....I see Lyon has taken a page from Warne's playbook with the old 'new mystery delivery' ploy. Probably worked when you're as good as Warne, but Nathan Lyon....do fuck off....

Next up will be the '5-0' prediction, wonder who will do a McGrath with this?

I was worried that my ashes tickets would be days out ruined by the aussies destroying us, now looking forward to it!

I'm loving England's positive attitude (and please can we have New Zealand for the whole summer soon?)

There's a changing of the guard going on, it's not long since they were touting Broad for T20 captain (in fact he might have done it once or twice) now he wouldn't get anywhere near the team and in time his and Jimmy's place in the test team is under threat

I've yet to see anything from the new seamers that they have Jimmy's skill with the red ball. I think he's safe there for a while. But keep him wrapped up in cotton wool and saved for Tests only please.

True, but pretty sure Wood can do what Broad can, and Willey is a southpaw which helps him.

Broad wil need to perform. Jimmy nailed on for his skill with the Duke in England.

Cook is the interesting one. I remember Nasser, Strauss and Vaughan all having limited shelf lives as captain once thet were not involved with the short form of the game. One of them, can't remember who, described how thet felt the team evolve and move on from them once this happened.

His desperation to cling to the ODI gig shows he recognises this, if things go badly personally or for the team this will be his last series as captain. I can't see him going back to ranks and just batting either.

Test team will evolve under Root, just a matterof when...

I hope Cook recognises just how valuable a player of his type is. In the modern game, there are so few genuine 'rocks' out there. The guy you can rely on to bat for a day within his limitations. Everyone is in danger of becoming too obsessed with hitting. There will always be room for the one who will ride out the storm at one end. And Cook does that better than anyone.

I wonder in terms over average balls per innings faced, what the test averages might look like?

Let's not get carried away. I was there last night and parts of it were great, Root, Wood and Willey, h0wever, the lost the plot at the end. Just before the collapse they had it in their hands, 5 more minutes of McCullum and it was game over, but that is T20.

As for the ashes. I see their bowling being vene better than the aussies, we can match their batting now, and if we get Warner and Smith early we have a chance, but I think their 4 fast bowlers will see them through.

I sat in the pub with a buch of lads going to the game and the consensus was the game revolves around how well Anderson and Broad do, I think the conditions now have to be perfect for Anderson, which he may get, and Broad is getting back to his old self, but if they quite don't work, and Moeen is taken to the cleaners, which he will be.....
