In US sports, they make you sit out a week before you are allowed to play again after a concussion. Dube has passed all the concussion protocols so luckily is able to play again within 48 hours

Is that something actual written down or is that just something that generally happens for the NFL because there is usually a week between games?

Bit of googling suggests 9 days is media for a NFL and a minimum of 48 hours rest before resuming activity. nbcsports.com

In rugby league, it's minimum 11 days and can be considerably longer if you don't pass various medical tests first time. I'm struggling to see why being hit by a cricket ball at 100mph is less dangerous - it feels like it should be very much worse.

And then Dube comes on and gets a wicket first ball.

NDWDave wrote: “Maybe it’s just British attitudes of enjoying being in the ‘cricket pain cave’ of celebrating defeat,” There is definitely a positive correlation between number of England wickets lost and post frequency on this thread. Would be interesting to compare number of posts when England’s men got tonked 5-0 in Australia versus when then won If I’ve been at work and England are batting and see virtually no posts here, it usually means a great day has been had. Dozens mean a tonking Not so many during that match….. 😉 Oooof. 10.3 overs….. |

I've just read the graduated return to play protocol for rugby league and the minimum of 12 days (first day you can play) with that becoming 21 for under 18s is impressive. The risk of a repeat concussion (and the repeated non concussive hits you're bound to get that can do damage over the long term which would be worse if not recovered fully) would be a lot higher in both rugby (both codes) and NFL Vs cricket although I'm not sure that's a reason to come back earlier given the consequences of a repeat would still be the same. Agree 48 hours doesn't seem long enough, I thought he'd been definitively diagnosed with concussion at the time they took him out? |
