Almost England's highest ever test partnership. And they've played a few matches down the years.

Don't suppose many of the biggest partnerships have been at 5 an over in the past.

Could be England's first triple century since 1990 if root can keep going

Unlikely, but possible I suppose.

There's no reason to tee off though given they're scoring at nearly 6/over just playing normally.

They'll need a lead of ~200-250 and ~4 sessions to have a go

One good over for Brook could bring them
At their respective scoring rates, Brook needs a further 97 balls to score 82 runs, Root needs 59 balls to score 41 runs. That's exactly 26 overs in total.

But in the morning session they scored 166 at 5.72 an over, which is faster than either of their overall scoring rates. Brook slightly outscored Root at 77 to 73. If that continues, I reckon maybe 20 overs - but there's a chance they may get milestone nervous.

31 triple centuries in Tests, but none since Warner in 2019, and never two in the same match, never mind in the same innings: en.wikipedia.org

Whoops - that first sentence should read "One good over for Brook could bring them significantly closer together".

An argument in favour of teeing off a bit is that both batters must be pretty knackered by now, and they have to go again on Tuesday. It's always been said that Stokes' England are about getting a result - so the ethos should surely be to focus on the quick runs at this point. I reckon the rest of England's batting line up would enjoy a mad hour against a tired attack short of one bowler.
