I do lol at the timeless test that finished early so the players didn’t miss the boat home. Think it was around day 11. I need to look up details on that thriller. Better than any 20/20

I want to say it was South Africa v England. And very possibly not the only test like that in the series.

England needed another 42 to win on the last day, with 5 wickets in hand.

Highest ever fourth innings score in FC cricket! Probably no surprise.

Never been a timeless test since, though apparently the ICC was considering it for the final of the World Test Championship.

England - West Indies in 1930 another drawn by agreement, after 9 days play, so England could catch the boat home.

West Indies were 408/5 chasing 836 to win.

I'm now way down a rabbit hole!!

Not all timeless tests seem to work. Fifth test between Oz and SA in 1932 lasted only 3 days, and 5hrs 53mins of playing time - the shortest test in history. And that included one day lost to weather and another rest day!

Seems it's batting track :-)

I was concerned about whether it was our bowling deficiency to start with

I've been consulting my Wisden Book of Test Cricket - and the reason given for the Eng v SA Test ending is: "the tourists had to begin their two day rail journey back to their ship in Cape Town". There was time on the final day too apparently, but rain in the tea interval brought the match to a close.

It also featured Bill Edrich, finally getting some runs (219) after his introduction to Tests gave him a run of scores that went 5,0,10,12,28,12,4,10,0,DNB,6,1 - they must have seen something in him, as he finished his career with an average of exactly 40.
