Essex look as if they're going to sneak over the line in their opener. Great start! :)

Oh, and some other match begins today out in some warm place somewhere. Expect ultra-conservative selection as usual...

I read that Ali is in at No.8, replacing Treadwell.

Yes, seems to be out on the wires. Although if you are going to drop players for one bad game (and his wasnlt THAT bad), WTAF are Broad and Trott doing in the XI?

Be interesting to see how the teams react in this test.

I thought Tredders had some sort of injury?

Sprained his wrist trying a new mystery delivery - one where the ball turns...;-)

:-)

He's a good steady bowler, got found out second innings though!

it would beinteresting to see how Rashid goes, he could do well, or get smashed out of sight.

Teaboy, how good is this Mills guy?

Interesting:

England win toss...and bowl. Genuine decision based on pitch/decisions, or a frit Captain trying to protect the vulnerable top order, especially himself? Hmmmm

Cook confirms Tredders was not injured.
Jerome Taylor out injured for the Windies.

Mills is supposedly genuinely fast but he was very inconsistent. He played only a handful of games in the last few seasons but didn't make the side on a regular basis - Topley was considered the better left-arm prospect at Chelmsford. Mills is raw, but if he comes good then he could be spectacular. Hove might be a good ground for him.

Ali's obv in on his previous form (unlike Trott). Bit tough on Tredders but that's the way it goes. Jerome Taylor out is a boost for Cook but he's probably bottled out of batting first.

Meanwhile, at more important venues (Trent Bridge), Yorkshire's youngsters once again come to the rescue, given England keep bottling playing players that should be given a chance (Lyth, Rashid).

Presumably if Ali is replacing Tredwell and Tredwell is ahead of Rashid therefore he'll be allowed to come back and play for Yorkshire instead of being messed about. Ditto Plunkett and Lyth.
