He's got form for delaying the declaration long after the various pundits said he should - 1st test against Sri Lanka at Lords last year, 4th test at Headingly against NZ the year before.

438. Frightening uber-aggression and reckless risk taking by our standards...:-)
IIRC what really irritated pundits in many/most of the declarations was that there was no attempt to accelerate the scoring leading up to them, even though the game was safe. We tended to carry on nudging and nurdling with no sense of urgency towards whatever total they had in mind.
Glad to see Buttler be more positive yesterday.

Well well well. Peck peck's spreadsheet probably said 87.6% chance of a win, and 0% chance of a loss. They're probably reasonably happy to have avoided defeat.

Tredwell really didn't look very dangerous. Tidy, good variations, good economy rate, but not threatening.
Good rearguard action by the Windies. We looked toothless; not sure how much to blame the pitch...

Broad worried me the most. Watched his spell yesterday when I got in from work. Fairly sure he usedto be mid to upper 80's mph, occasionally threatening 90. He was barely getting it over 80, and that's more Country trundler territory than world class opening test bowler.
Reminded me of that last series in England from Jason Gillespie, was it 05 or 09? Bustling in looking as he ever did, then the ball leaves his hand and it's just there to be hit.
Pitch was dreadful, but same as previous 4 days. You could block and stay in on it. With Chanderpaul about, that was always a risk ( hell, they didn't even need him). Our declarations, which always shut the oppo out 200%, making blocking inevitable. Had they had a glimmer, they may have played a bit more and given us a better chance. And made the game a better spectacle.

TRO - it was the 2005 ashes where gillespie's bowling fell off the cliff, think he got 3 wickets at just over a hundred a piece. oof.
mildly surprised the windies got the draw - i know the pitch was a road but you can usually rely on the current WI vintage to fall apart. perhaps more damning for the england bowlers?

MDOTs, I could see Broad being the fast bowler who gets left out for the next test. He isn't batting well at all and, as Sarrers rightly says, he looks pretty innocuous. Moeen and Rashid for Broad and Tredders for the next test...

WI gave 4 wickets away and we still could not win.
Two not great teams playing on a very slow wicket. The draw was always a good bet. England on paper should win. However, both sides lack a couple of bowlers.

So Saviour F English Cricket Kevin Pietersen managed a match-changing 19 against the best side in Wales in Division 2.
I really wish journalists would stop reporting his putative comeback, because it's not going to happen. Even a hatful of runs in Div. 2 really doesn't count for much. It's not even as if it's a bowler's pitch...
