Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I've just had a flashback. Didn't this used to be Lavinia, Duchess of Norfolk's XI? I've looked her up on wikipedia and she died in 1995! Aaagh!
My immediate thought reading southcoastpete's post was whether Lavinia was still on the go.

I just looked up Lav's XI against the Australians in 1985 in my Wisden - that game ended in a draw. It was an outing for Australia's reserve keeper Ray Phillips; whilst David Boon played for the Lav Elev.

Whilst flicking through the pages about the tour, I whizzed past a few other facts:

1) Ian Botham scored five centuries for Somerset during that season, whilst playing a full role in all the test matches. So hard to imagine an international player having that much involvement these days.

2) McDermott and Lawson took 52 of the 69 English wickets to fall during the series. That's 75%. I wonder if there has been a series where two bowlers have taken a bigger proportion. It might be interesting to see how Warne and McGrath did in this respect over the years; or perhaps Ambrose and Walsh; or Wasim and Waqar. Anyone want to do some digging?

I bet Botham (and many others for a few years more) were also playing Sunday league on the "rest" day.

Arse.

Missed Dunkley’s wicket - gone early again.
Beaumont also gone.
Not a grand start 😞

Re: your point 2 Fetch.

Murali and Vaas for SL?

Or Herath and AN other?

Re: your point 1.

Central contracts....

I do find it particularly scandalous that more England players aren't allowed to play for their county teams though.

Basically if you get an England regular, you've lost a player, but they remain on your books.

Hence BHF buying up everyone.

Who knows when the last time Root played for Yorkshire? 2018 maybe?

I believe the games earlier this season where Bairstow played for Yorks were the first time he's kept wicket for them since about 2017.

If it was Gooch's wicket, you wouldn't need AN Other :-)
