Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I've always wondered how winning draws (4 pts) and losing draws (1 pt) worked. At least that's how they scored them around here. I suppose that would also encourage the team batting first to set up a declaration.

That list isn't quite right as the article says Bairstow is batting at 5, but he's listed at 6.

Article didn't have that detail earlier as it breaking new. Interesting that Bairstow goes to 5 but makes sense as Stokes at 6 has a more flexible style for the situation changes.

Yes we had 4 points and 1 point (I'm talking 20-25 years ago now so might have changed).

6 points for a win (3 for a tie I presume) to give context.

It was a little bit farcical in under 17s as with 20 overs you were never going to declare early, etc. But yes in the senior matches it theoretically added another dimension. That one point we got as above the other team scored the highest score against us that season I suspect and the one who could have very easily declared.

Winning and losing draws are very common in league cricket. Always a little strange because it was tactical that if you came against a really good team, you might put them in and try and get a losing draw.

In the wetherby league, it also used to be a 90overs game (I think it might have reduced to 80 by the time I stopped playing). The team batting first had a max of 45 overs, but if you bowled the them out (or declared), then the team batting second gained the overs.

We once played a game where the opposition really wasn't that interested in a long game, they scored really quickly but with lots of ugly slogging and we bowled them out in about 25overs for 140 or something, quite easily gettable, so they gave us 20overs on top of our usual 45. It took us something like 50 overs to get the runs, because they had a pretty decent spinner (and keeper stood up), we lost 3 or 4 quick wickets for not many, and one of our middle order was solid in defence, but could not hit the ball off the square or take any quick singles. Or singles.

I remember batting with him in that game and early on, I'd always look to nudge it in a gap and take quick ones. He refused anything where there wasn't a comfortable two... Except for the 5th or 6th ball of the over when he'd find a big gap and walk a single.

It was only mildly very frustrating.

The bonus was we bored the opposition into submission (they were *really* bored and voiced it a lot) and won by 2 wickets or something.

But in general, this meant for very very long days - in the middle of summer i think games didn't start until 1pm, meaning we often didn't finish until 8.30 or 9.

I wanted the games to start at 10am. So you'd finish at about 6. Apparently this wasn't popular for some reason.

Apart from his bit on Mitchell starc's catch, I agree with this from McGrath.

Just noticed Scotland don't actually need to win to go through now such is their advantage on run rate.
It's hard to summarise what they need, but basically a not actually that close loss would still be good enough to go through. If Scotland bat first and get 250, then Netherlands would need to win with 6 overs to spare. If Netherlands bat first and score 250, Scotland would need to get to 219 in their 50 overs to go through.

Looks a good score just based on the total. Let's hope wickets in hand aren't a factor for Australia today

That wicket was needed.
