Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

All the manufactured indignation in the press, in social media and among the players re was it a catch / was it a stumping has pretty much turned me off the men's ashes. If the umpire gives it out it's out. Have a bit of a discussion but then move on, there's only so much can be said before it's all just repetition.

In truth I think that in this age of money ruling the roost the spirit of the game is pretty much an obsolete anachronism. Just go by the laws. Mankad - fine, if you don't want to walk for an edge, don't - the umpires are paid to make decisions.

On another topic, was talking to son today. In the league he plays in (Cumbria/Northumberland area) the league cup is now a hundred competition. It's had to be self umpired as only one league umpire was prepared to umpire it. All the others were "sod it - I'm not getting involved in that format")

Scotland made 234-8 against Zimbabwe, who in reply lost a wicket to the first ball and are 3-1 after the first over.

I'm glad that discussion of actual cricket has taken over from arguments over the game's theology.

Scotland desperately need another wicket right now.
