Nah - it was a poor decision to declare and England's hack and slash batting will come back to haunt them. Smith getting out doesn't change that. And Aus may well get bowled out here well short but then they would have been anyway if that's the case.

They declared 8 down. Australia lost their last 4 for 14 runs. It's probably the least contentious Bazball decision I've seen them take, lol.

It might come back and bite them. You'll see I've posted many comments along the lines of they've gone too far with Stokes specifically someone I think could play smarter. However in this specific game, they have a chance to win because they've gone about things quickly when they batted.

Normally I agree, when you're 2 days left, second innings, it's non-contentious and Vaughan was always too conservative about his declaration, but on the first day, I don't see how it influences the final outcome of the match. Oz have a good batting line up, and alter their behaviour accordingly. Here it was just giving extra runs away, which may or may not be important.

For balance, guess they have the chance to lose because of their approach and that's the conundrum.

One of the Bazball principles, "no fear of failure".

No matter how we got there, 281 is a very exciting target. And the close of play situation is very close too. If England had a fully fit spinner I'd fancy their chances but it's going to be tight. Let's hope the weather doesn't win.

And the draw chance on the betting market gone from around 5% to more than 10% simply because of close of play.

A different approach is not really fear of failure really though (attacking isn't the only positive decision). Australia batting first approach might have been to bat two days and essentially have only two results possible. Against another standard side, that likely leads to a draw if they play well.

Would have been interesting to see how England would have approached that.

The match is in the balance with all three results possible. The weather looks to be the key factor. If there is a good amount of play tomorrow I still maintain the first innings declaration may be one they regret. However, it could be proven to be a great call as well.

Gutted I am in the office tomorrow and miss it

Looks like rain free from about 11am according to the Met office.
