With respect, if I wanted to read about numbers and averages and statistics (and facts) I would join Greppers on some God awful American thread. Cricket isn't baseball, it's not about averages (apart from Fiery, and look how he was savaged for it). Cricket should be about perception and misguided opinion. I "feel" that Stokes is over rated, bats too high at 5 and bowls a lot of dross. He has won a handful of Tests, a small handful. My middle aged memory tells me that Freddie won dozens of Tests, and Beefy, hundreds! Post as many stats as you want, I will continue to ignore them and back my woefully inaccurate, rose tinted, Benaud voice overed opinion. |

I think there something in that Nico, the sort of players who have the ability to produce a session that will effectively win the match all by themselves. An average of 50 might simply mean you frequently score the 3rd century of the innings, but are those runs actually that valuable? I believe to continue the Baseball references the film Moneyball explores a similar angle - with added chewing Tobacco. |

stats.espncricinfo.com Stokes 9 MoMs in 75 tests Botham 12 in 102 Flintoff 6 in 79 Root 12 in 113 KP 10 in 104 Moeen Ali 6 in 64 So Ali has as many Man of the Match awards as Freddie and in fewer test matches. Not bad for someone who isn’t good enough as a batter or bowler (not my opinion - I think he’s great) |

I love a stat. Not sure I’ll be using man of the match as my go to though.

Derek Pringle 0 MoMs in 30 tests which clearly disproves any value in the stat

I can't ever remember a MOM ceremony after Tests when I was a kid? Assumed it came in with the one day stuff?
