There are some things about the Tim Paine story that I struggle to get my head around and why he feels the need to go now and not when these arose and also how and when the complaint came about.

Hales is a twat, that is quite old news, but also an obnoxious one.
Nonetheless, it shows how easy it is for anyone of any background to slip into abusive language, and racism, sexism, misogyny is not the preserve of one type of person.

Papers were about to go public with the Tim Paine story which is why he resigned. He'd been cleared of breaching the code of conduct at the time of the original complaint on the grounds that it had been consensual.

Yeah, thats what I read on Paine, but if cleared why does he have to resign just because its being made public now? OK its embarrassing, but he was found not to have breached the CA code of conduct. Granted he has breached his wifes trust though.
The circumstances of it being consensual but then a complaint being made also makes me uneasy. Not having seen the messages I cant form an opinion but you just wonder was it a malicious complaint or did CA reach a bad conclusion. I guess more will come out in due course

Maybe they just want a keeper who will score more runs against us?

Bazo, as per BBC, the complaint was only made some time later (the following year) when the women involved was accused of theft.
He said, on his resignation "On reflection, my actions in 2017 do not meet the standard of an Australian cricket captain, or the wider community."
Press reporting suggests that although he has resigned from the captaincy, there is little chance of staying in the team, not in the near future. Paine is still in the squad but it'll be interesting to see if that holds.
Australia have younger wicketkeepers with more impressive batting records, but that's not really what Paine has brought to the team. He's generally brought a sense of stability and calm but now he is the entire cause of a loss of stability and calm. If he sees himself as a source of disruption, he would probably make the decision to withdraw from the whole Ashes series.

Presumably there's some abuse of position even if consensual.

It was shortly before he was recalled to the Australia team.
Paine is injured anyway, and is a fitness doubt for the Brisbane test anyway.
