I suppose what I was trying to say was that if it is a directive, then it no longer has the power of individual players making their stand against racism, instead it's the group doing what they've been told by the authorities. In matches over the last year I've seen a mix of standing, kneeling, clenched fist - in all cases I saw it as players taking a personal stand as they saw fit.

I just can't think what is personal reason would be and why he wouldn't out it on such an important and - given the history - incendiary subject.

I think getting tied up in what symbol to use detracts from the more important point of how do we live our lives in a way that combats racism.
