Boom. Patto strikes. Did not see that coming earlier in the day. Good win. Runs for Ballance and Malan and wickets for Willey and Bess. |

Lordy! Last time I checked , it was about 170-4 and petering out into a draw. Excellent work by Little Willey and Patto to polish off the tail.

Good work by Bess too - doing the job he's supposed to do. Exciting end for this section of the county championship season - with games v Northants and Lancs to play, the top two places are up for grabs. Shame we have to wait a month because of silly hit and giggle cricket. |

The new format has worked surprisingly well- and Yorkshire's doing well from the traditional 'have very good players but not quite good enough for England' approach...

I know that's usually the Surrey approach. Still think the batting line up is lightweight if at least two of malan/Ballance/bairstow/root isn't in it. Hence why Bess has been batting at 6! |

Crikey, he's never a 6. A good 8 or 9 and a tentative 7, maybe. Do you know the background to Tattersall going in loan and Duke keeping? Seems strange with YJB presumably on white-ball England duty soon... |

PS Agree on the batting but I'd add Lyth to that list. Still need K-C and/or Brook to kick on a bit.

No, first I'd heard about it. Not sure Tattersall had shown any form in the few years of opportunities he'd had, so why not blood Duke. Wasn't Tattersall originally a batsman converted to a keeper? Given how he's batted, I'd be comfortable with Bess at 7 for Yorkshire. 8 for england maybe. He's effectively taken the bresnan role. Although bres probably was more likely to kick on and make big scores. I'm surprised they kept Olivier as the O/S and didn't instead go for a batsman that was going to play for a few seasons - in the Bevan/Lehmann role |
