57.5 Degrees of Pain
My keeper of choice through the 80s (an inaccurate leggie who could get plenty of turn at times depended on the keeper a lot) was Derek Proudfoot, but he was excellent (though not quite as good as he thought he was, another keeper trait). Is there something in having a name befitting a hobbit? He once took a blinder of a catch off a thickly edged yorker from our very quick bowler, and was still lying at full stretch with ball in glove shouting "F*cking Brilliant, F*cking Brilliant" when it was pointed out the edge came off the off stump... |

Pretty remarkable from Darren Stevens yesterday - 190 including a stand of 166 in which his partner scored just one run!

Including 150 in boundaries, T20 is such a bad influence on these youngsters!

Yes my paper says he is a 45 year old, that's almost as old as Peter Siddle.

I used to keep wicket whenever I could, mostly because it made sessions in the field go much more quickly. I wasn’t the best, but I was not completely inept. Even took a stumping, but just the one. Our usual keepers were a guy with a twitch named Keith Turner, which is a typical cricketer’s name, and a Jim Walkinshaw who we called Walkinshit, especially as he really hated being called that. He wasn’t half as good as he thought he was, mainly because he was too fat and slow to get to anything that wasn’t straight at him. Any ball that went past him was always the bowler’s fault and met with a glare. |

Amazing win for Notts, going to take some catching in that group. £1m+ cricket oval for women's cricket in Barcelona. theguardian.com |
