I think it will be a fascinating series. Back to backs always carry grudges forward too... As for the Dukes ball? India have a fine pace attack.

Quite the stat this - across the Tests in Sri Lanka and India, Joe Root scored 546 more than any other batsman. Five HUNDRED. The two doubles in Sri Lanka hiding a lot of cracks, plus the selection rotation to a small degree.

i think india are much closer to winning in england than the other way around, but i agree that a green swinging deck will cause them problems. could be quite a few low scoring games. kohli has never looked totally comfortable on them, neither has williamson, only the cheating aussie of the other 'big name' batsmen seems to consistently cope.

Kohli struggled? In the 2019 series he scored 593 runs in 3 tests. I saw him get 149 of them...he didn't play a false shot. |

true, but he was all over the shop in 2014. IMO could go either way unless he bats himself into good nick in the indian-hit-and-shit first.

I'm far from convinced about our own batting in home conditions. We've tended to rely on the Broad/Anderson combo to mask over batting failings. We should have an edge in home conditions seam bowling wise. India significantly better with the bat, and in spin bowling and I think Sharma/Bumrah etc are pretty decent if not quite at the Broad/Anderson levels. The tests are late summer from Aug 4 with the final day of test 5 on Sept 14. So perhaps more spin friendly, and less of the juicy June green toppers by then especially if Summer is a decent one. |

Haven't we needed Curran and Bess to pick up the top order slack in recent home Tests?

Ah, so now we get to the root (no pun intended) of England's batting woes in Ahmedabad. Poor wifi = no gaming bbc.co.uk |

Boycott would have spent 18 hours a day in the nets

Boycott ducked out of going to India for the first 16 years of his career, before playing in the one-off Golden Jubilee test in Mumbai. That was the game where Botham scored a century (no-one else from either side reached 50) and took 13 wickets. Boycott might as well have stayed at home for that one.
