Given the strength of the convicts pace attack, added to their lack of decent spinners, why would we need more than one spinner for the Ashes? Take 8 seamers and hope for the best with injuries.

Lyon? He is quite good. Yes, Leach will do.

Well (a) you want 2 spinners in the mix in case of injury.
(b) Bess and Leach turn the ball different ways.
(c) Root is a part-timer, a useful one yes, but not good enough to reliably hold an end tight for periods. Also flat pitches vs turning pitches.
(d) there are possibilities for 2 spinners perhaps at Sydney.

That's the easy bit. Now for solid batsmen with sound technique and a hunger for runs. Not named Root.

I'd forgotten about Woakes and Curran.
Curran did ok in SL. Will come into the mix in England.
I imagine Woakes will play the first test and much of the summer.

There is no way we play two spinners in any ashes test. (Root the spin wizard doesn’t count)

Yep, I can't imagine we'd want two full-time spinners in the Ashes - Leach plus Root as backup should be enough.
How many England careers have been ended by this tour? I think Yorkshire might be seeing more of YJB and Bess after this...

Sydney does spin.
If we have two capable spinners then why not?

Beacuse they will prepare a pitch for their 4 man, 90mph+ pace attack?
