I think Randall at 70 could have scored 0 as well as anyone in the last test

I "know" Randall at 70 would still be a better fielder than half of them

I saw Randall play. He was no Ray East.

Cut/paste from a convo between me and nico over on OTDIFH:
[Test grounds: Lords, The Oval, Trent Bridge, Headingly, Old Trafford.
'Festival grounds' where tests are held against Ireland and other 'friends' although not Afghanistan because heaven forbid we want to support an emerging cricket nation: Riverside.
Not test grounds under any circumstances: Southampton, Cardiff, The Cora]

Derek Randall as a right handed Gower. Maybe as a fielder (the best I remember from the 70s and 80s). At the crease think more Dustin Hoffman in Rainman.

Thanks. Knew I'd missed one but my brain went blank.

I loved watching Randall field, when I joined my first club I modelled my fielding on him, running in rather than walking in as the bowler delivered. Perhaps I matched his energy if not skill

Like wot Greppers said, in a 6 Test summer, one each for Nottingham, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester, Lords and the Oval. If the Ashes are only 5 Tests, toss a coin to see which London ground gets lucky. Certainly wrong for Lords to get 2 Tests in a 2 x 3 Test summer. If there are "spare" Tests against the up and coming (or frankly shitter) teams, send them round the provinces.
