Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I think I watched nearly every over of that game: espncricinfo.com

It wouldn't happen now (Pakistan continuing to bat into the third day) - batsmen would be instructed at lunch on the second day to hurry up before a declaration after the 5th session or so...

They were 1-0 up in the series and it was the final test, so they were well within their rights to simply bat for the draw, particularly as this was the first time a Pakistan team had won a series in England.

(And if you remember, it was a fairly bad-tempered series with accusations of bad sportsmanship, complaints about the English Umpires, cheating etc. so Imran Khan & Javed Mianded would not have been doing Gatting any favours).

He is 7th on the all time wicket list and only Kumble and Warne can bat (Jimmy has 1,000+ runs though)

I didn’t ever think England would be hoping the openers could be dismissed so the scoring can be chivvied along.

Ashley Giles has a bowling average of just over 40!

That is surprising.

Not sure he'd play as many tests as he did now

With Giles it was his ability to tie up an end but yes not the greatest in terms of actually taking wickets.

I guess the question is would he have been able to perform that role these days.
