Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Writing the word 'technique', I have to check that there's just two 'e's in it.

There you go - that's analysis right there, Switters ;-)

I'll miss Boycs, as above he was a very good counterpoint to the frivolities and larking about of Swann etc, they need to bring in someone of similar tendencies.

Geoffrey seemed to forget that there were still a large number of us who remembered him as a tedious and self serving run accumulator and a poor fielder. I guess bowling in a cap was at least amusing for 5 minutes. I'd still rather listen to him than other serial whiners like Fiery Fred, Trevor Bailey and Michael Vaughn though.

I think the issue with boycott is that whilst he offers good technical insight at times, he's never made any issue to modernise either his analysis nor his approach.

That's where Vaughan has made a difference.

Vaughan looks out of touch with the fan base to me. Constantly extolling the virtues of the 100 for example. T20 is such a success that another competition of 16% less activity just seems odd to most fans. Especially as nuance is one of the key fascinations of cricket.

Amusing to read Mike Selvey reminiscing about bowling to Boycott when there was a limit on first innings overs in the County Champs; they wanted to keep him in to limit scoring, Selvey once sent down ten successive maidens to him 😆

I always like the Botham deliberate run out 0 of Boycott story. They had a first innings lead but missed follow on, plan was to score quickly in a session and a bit then declare.

Naturally Boycs is out there scratching around on 10no, no intention of doing anything other than crease occupation so the team sent Ian Terrence out as next man to deliberately run him out. It’s on YouTube, Boycs was visibly furious.

I've just watched the video, and am a bit confused. That looks like Botham on strike, but if the batsmen didn't cross, then wouldn't it have been Botham who should have been given out?
