They have a cricket team in Ambridge. The storylines always make me cringe.

It's a mixed team, I believe. You can take your pick of bottom-clenchingly awful themes in an everyday story of country folk....the cricket ones are by no means the worst.

Yes, they've been mixed for about three years.

Back in the day, I played a lot of indoor cricket. Usually at John Birch's place in Nottingham, but occasionally we ventured over to Derby. There was a mixed League on a Friday night, which as I remember, consisted of us bowling mandatory underarm to a succession of England women's internationals, who would smash it to the back net for 6.

I once played cricket down a supermarket aisle, using a french loaf as a bat and crusty rolls as the ball. We were on a nightshift and it was about 3am.
A crusty roll does seam nicely if you get it out of the band right; indeed the only viable batting strategy is to charge the bowler and turn every delivery into a full toss....
...the game didn't last long...
...but it was fun....

I have been hit in the face by a bouncer from a female Dutch international. Happiest day of my life.

Spent many hours in both John Birch's place and Derby with my two. The England Women internationals were certainly accepting overarm the last few years we were there (and Kathryn Brunt would still be swearing under her breath throughout the game )
