Nicole - three or four years ago John Birch's place was still going though he'd moved on. Primarily as an indoor cricket centre but still offering net sessions to clubs. I spent many hours there with my two sons. No reason to suppose it's not still there now (think it's now called something like Nottingham Community Sports Centre)

I remember how much it hurts your hands and arms after batting when you have not picked up the willow for some time. In my last season, I opened the batting having not batted since the previous season, even in the nets. I scored 50 odd and we won the game but the skipper told me after that he wouldn't have opened the batting with me if he'd known. Strange logic as a) that was where I always batted (or 3) and b) I'd have to bat at some point.
I always think that I *could* still bat but I'm not sure, I'm a few years retired now. Just the odd shadow flick through midwicket or square cut in the kitchen for me now.

Always loved the game but never played beyond the garden. That's why I ended up as a scorer - a way to be involved

"I've played a lot of club cricket in my time and I'd say that Purley number 7 was a ringer"
It looks that way but he was a genuine club member, just had the knock of his life that day. Usually played for the 2nds, so he was playing down a level that day, but I don't think he ever played for the 1st team.

Scored a ton batting at 7 for the stiffs and didn't get the call from the first team skipper? Now that does sound like a lot of clubs I've played for

Hoping we lose. Craptain was mithering on about ‘positives’ and ‘proud of the group’ after losing the Ashes last week.
Win, and draw the series and the fucker will be on an open top bus.
Also a drawn series and less urgency to change things in the ECB, they’ll just say everything’s ok and we’d have won if Anderson hadygone lame.
