Let's be honest. It isn't like facing Wasim & Waqar or a Windies Quartet or that fast Aussie lady - Lillian Thompson.

It certainly isn't but then if you are not facing much of it on day to day basis then I imagine it's hard to pick up. I suppose my point was more the dearth of proper quicks as opposed to anythings Johnson's doing

Yes it's all gone line and length these days. Look at what we have done with Finn - used to be proper quick, but he's never cemented a place in the side over concerns of bad balls and giving away 4 runs an over. He has always taken wickets.
It's a function of 4 bowlers, you can't hide anyone. Ideally with 5 you could have a quick doing 3-4 over bursts only, proper searing pace and used sparingly if he is going for a few. But not an option with only 4 bowlers, he has to do long and if necessary economical shifts.

Indeed, Finn would get wickts, and not expensively either.

Agreed, even if he went for 4.5 per over but got 4 or 5 its got to be worth it, as great as jimmy is, he doesn't look like getting many on this trip

Perth = fast, bouncy. Pick Finn and Rankin and see if the Aussies don't like it up 'em.

Similarly, I want to see Monty and Swann both bowling at Sydney.

Despite Flower saying there will be changes for Perth I think they will pick the following side: Cook, Carberry, Root, Pietersen, Bell, Stokes, Prior, Broad, Bresnan, Swann, Anderson. I think they will be too cautious to pick Rankin or Finn, sadly.

I think Panesar will be picked ahead of the busted flush that is Swann. Swann's bowling has been woeful, Panesar has been more dangerous. But yes I don't think much else will change, because there is no room for change. If they drop Stokes for a batsman that is a risk.

Morning Chrissers, morning everyone.
Just noticed that on the days leading up to each of the previous tests Sky has had 'Adelaide - England's best days', and 'Adelaide - Australia's best days' progs running. However for today there seems only to be a 'Perth - Australia's best days' one.
Anyone else see anything other than a conservative seleaction like Doccers above, and a 3 day skewering with the Ashes lost?
I cannot see any other outcome, tbh. Still, maybe we can at least win the toss.....
