Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I was wondering about something related earlier (in a gun control thread elsewhere, where some of the North American posters were referencing, mountain lions, etc): What's the most dangerous animal native-ish to the UK that you might encounter on a run? (and no, ticks / mosquitoes / cyclists Do Not Count)

Adders.

Though have to say cows are probably a close second. Some herds are brilliant, some less so. Apparently the trick is not to run.

If danger means risk x hazard then maybe adders and bulls might be more hazardous, but I hardly ever encounter them, and even then can take avoiding action. The risky ones that have caused me actual harm are by far dogs and people.

This lot were mostly lying down way off the path, so I thought just walk quietly and I could see the exit stile not far away. Soon as they saw me they got up and started walking on an intercept route towards the stile - they knew where I was heading!! Walked a bit faster and got there before them, then they ran along the other side of the fence as far as they could, I'm sure they were just being friendly!!!

Had very similar yesterday Snoot only they intercepted me at the stile I was using to get into the field. A neighbour said the farmer told him they were all young cows and probably thought I was just coming to feed them. However I was totally blocked in so quickly reversed and tried a different route entirely.

Sandhurst parkrun had beef cattle in the field on the far side from the start finish. Mostly they were interested in finding shade only but one did decide to go for a run along side us as we went past. Then my mum's walk round the course was delayed when they moved in front of a gate. She still got a course PB though. :-)
