I get what you’re saying about new normal HG, but I’d have favoured starting off with smaller events and waves, eg 5x 100 for a 500 total size event, probably a 5 or 10k. No one really needs a crowd of 10,000 to enjoy an event do they?
My bet is it gets cancelled.

I can imagine the Hamburg model could be the future next spring but september seems too soon for something that large

I’m inclined to agree HG, we have to try a few things or the sport dies and it all seems a bit quiet on the vaccine front. I do suspect that we are gently being moved to a position of it all being down to us as individuals; if you are worried, don’t go to crowded places, work from home, sanitise like crazy, homeschool your kids, avoid your granny, have your shopping delivered. If you are not worried, do what you want, holiday, pub, festivals, footie etc but follow a few cursory rules to protect others e.g hand washing and an occasional face covering. It will be a personal choice and we seem to be coming full circle so that if the NHS can cope with admissions, that is OK. I may be misreading things but it is how it looks to me.

DT, I agree totally with you. Can’t understand why this year at least anyone would want to jump on a plane and go abroad. Our own country is in a mess financially so let’s spend our money at home trying to keep as many jobs for as many people as possible.
Another night of mass crowds in Liverpool and London

I am surprised by Hamburg and feel it is a potential risk that just doesnt need to be taken while we know the virus is still circulating.
HG, yes it was a 1st for Ms Axe. As it turns out she actually had a first before the exams due to their no detriment policy and then in the exams she pushed her average a little bit higher. Very proud of her.
Just seen the Liverpool scenes and I think thats just stupidity.

I agree with jda and DocM. September is too soon for an event of that size and 10,000 is too many to be trying things out on.

I was surprised to see that about Hamburg too, and that news came out the same day NYC and Berlin cancelled. But reading further I discovered that Hamburg's announcement was only a press release and the race director was 'optimistic' about the event going ahead so I would be very surprised if it actually happens.
Frankfurt marathon is about the same size and at a later date but last info I received hinted that the race was looking doubtful.

Non-runner, there is a middle ground where (probably the majority) keep a 2m distance, wash hands more often, shop carefully, choose not to go to crowded places, see their family and therefore keep themselves and those they come into contact with as safe as possible, I don’t agree that it’s all in or all out
jda, I agree that it would be sensible to trial the approach at a small, shorter event, not a marathon that is likely to have crowds of spectators lining the streets
Shades, well spotted, fingers crossed that it doesn’t actually happen, it’s too soon for a mass event this year.

Smiley faces used as I don’t want to appear to come over as confrontational, it is not my way.

I wondered if London might do a second ballot to thin the field out to say, 10,000 or something.
