I’m sure that is what they are thinking. The vaccine seems some way behind schedule - I don’t know what the reasons for this are - and they are trying to squeeze out every last drop of potential benefit from it. It’s certainly the case that 10 million at 60% protection would be better than 5 million at 90% if all of then had the same underlying vulnerability. OTOH if the 5 million are significantly more vulnerable it’s a more complicated judgement.

Now that schools have gone anyway, a month or even fortnight of lockdown would really help I think.

Of course the vaccine is behind schedule. Everything this incompetent Government organises is half hearted and delayed. Remember the World leading test and trace system.
I'm utterly depressed by it all.

It was always going to take time to ramp up the vaccination rate - even putting to one side potential supply problems. Arranging the infrastructure - for gp surgeries setting up and staffing vaccination clinics alongside normal activities in a covid compliant manner over Christmas and the new year - was never going to be straightforward.

The outdoor activity centre my son works at started talking to the NHS about being a vaccination centre in early December. They are now accepted as one, but the work to set it up will take mid January (eg ripping up floors and replacing with surfaces that can be cleaned to NHS standards) so it will be lste/end January before

(Sorry) they are operational. I think there will be a big ramp up nationally towards the end of the month

I’m giving the Govt B+ for vaccinations so far.

They’ve done a good job, France has inoculated 322 people while we’re well over a million, Germany just over 100,000 with many centres dormant as the EU was slow to approve and under ordered.

Vaccine not approved for use in the EU until way after it was in the UK, so I would expect them to be behind in numbers just now.

Sounds like we are throwing the kitchen sink in.

"We're kind of in this Wild West," Dr. Phyllis Tien, an infectious disease physician at the University of California, San Francisco, told the New York Times. "None of this is being data driven right now."

That's not worrying.

That article says if people forget which vaccine their first jab was, or if it's unknown, then ok to give any as the 2nd jab. Surely it will be on people's medical records as to which they received ??

Israel has already vaccinated 11%of its population, which is very impressive. We are running at 1.5% at present.
