So let's absolutely destroy the economy and ruin hundreds of thousands of people's lives by plunging them into poverty, just to delay the inevitable spread of the virus by a month. Total waste of time and effort. There are parts of the country that have been in lockdown for months to no effect. Can we get Boris the spineless to resign and find a grown up to lead the country please.

Interesting. Diametrically opposite to what Boris said a few weeks back, when he advocated a regional approach.

We can't lurch from lockdown to lockdown. What CStar says is spot on.

If he is putting the country back to the way it was in March it means nothing is working and we can’t sustain doing this month in and month out. Sadly I doubt anyone really knows how to tackle it so I wouldn’t like to be their shoes.

Even on this site there's a fairly even split between "we can't keep locking down" and "we need lockdown and strict rules" doesn't matter who is in charge, buffoon or otherwise, it's a fairly impossible tightrope.

Tim, agree that applying the same rules to a village in Norfolk/Cornwall and city Manchester seems odd - until you look at the hospital beds per person across the areas, Cornwall is short at the best of times.

What is required is compliance with test and track and isolation when required - and sufficient financial support to isolate

We can’t lurch from lockdown to lockdown.
We can’t throw vulnerable people under the bus.
We can’t overwhelm the NHS.
We can’t stop people meeting people.

It’s easy to say what we can’t do, but all these are trade offs and there is a choice to be made, there is no win win.

Would be nice to have a government that says what it will do and how that gets us out of this mess. Government of unity would be good too to get rid of the partisan nonsense and take some power away from Tory pressure groups.
