LMH - glad that you now have increased capacity but hope it doesn't end up burning out the existing staff even more!
Also, having been speaking to my friend (and getting a second negative PCR) we both think that our 'positives' from the flowflex LFT could have been due to us both assuming we knew what we were doing so may not have been following the instructions exactly - so maybe flooding the specimen well. We also thought that the other steps are about getting sample onto the swab and then into the buffer so surely the method doesn't matter?!

Our work was giving out boxes of LFDs with our Christmas hampers today. Given most are now off work until Jan, I'm hoping we will all avoid the worst of it.
However, early indications suggesting Omicron is hospitalising ~2/3 of what Delta did, but a lot quicker (6 days rather than 9-10), so I fear the NHS will find the peak arrives very soon.

OK so I may be being a bit cautious then? Might still wait until after Christmas, couldn't forgive myself if I picked it up in the gym and took it round to my mums

Humbugteddy - I have done the same for the same reason. Fortunately I was at PureGym so it's easy to cancel.

Hbt, I’ve avoided the gym for the last week or so, ahead of coming down to London today for the weekend (I’m seeing my family, and staying with my 84 year old Nan, so have tried to minimise any potential infection opportunities over the last week or so). So I can understand avoiding it until after you’ve seen your mum.
I’ve got my booster booked for next week, so will continue to avoid until then as I don’t want to miss getting my booster, will probably be happy to return to the gym after that though

I've told my parents we won't go up to see them next weekend. I feel as if I'm totally immersed in COVID at work.

Some interesting things I've discovered over the last few days. In the last week in Wales we've delivered almost 500k vaccines to testing sites, most of those are now in arms. Mrs B started at 3am this morning to go and pick up a load of vaccines this morning from South Wales to keep it going in the North. It's astounding what people are doing.
At the main hospital I drop samples off, they showed me the new testing machine, over 2000 tests per day at full capacity.
Also, just to show the knock on effects at one A and E I'm picking samples up from, they are stating that the current waiting time on average to see a doctor is 11 hours.

Amazingly, it was relatively well organised entering the UK. Although filling in the passenger locator form yesterday 🇭🇺 caused much swearing and laughter (it doesn't make sense if you live in the UK rather than visiting), and necessitated a large gin afterwards 🍸 when we got to the airport 🇬🇧we showed our lateral flow test results from that morning and our nhs vaccination certificates. At the other end when our passports were checked this brought up all the information on a screen including my booking for a pcr test today (later) so the only people being stopped or delayed were those who had filled in the form incorrectly or incompletely. So the test centre must pass my flight details to customs, which is more joined up and organised than I expected. I would happily travel again now.
