To me " learning to live with it" - means taking responsibility and any action required not to unnesccarily make things worse. If that means wearing a mask on public transport or stepping aside /making room - then this is something we should "learn to live with". It's really not asking much! It certainly shouldn't mean we can pretend it's no longer a problem and ignore the fact that many more people will get ill and die

westmoors - but we do have expected standards, eg driving on the left, don't overtake if someone is coming the other way etc. Driving relies on people follow some pretty basic rules & carnage results when they don't.
So, eg masks indoors. I may follow that, but if others choose not to, how do I take personal responsibility? Other than not go anywhere?

How do you manage risk against catching flu or a cold?
Just because the government intends to remove all legal restrictions doesn't mean you can't still apply them. If you are still concerned, avoid crowded spaces, stay 2 m away from people.

When I had a cold I would try and keep away from getting too close to people, but in all honesty I didnt take that seriously enough and probably didnt realise how likely I would be to pass the germs on.
I know cold/flu are different but I do think I will react differently in future when I am unwell and keep apart from others. albeit that will be hard to do within the household

I think that given the success (in the majority of cases) of WFH that a lot more people will say "I'm not well but can WFH rather than go into the office and spread it"

Govt policy is “let it rip”. If you get it tough.
Good luck everyone.

What TMV said
We are basically the guinea pigs for the world. What is the plan when vaccine evading variants appear?

Very few people manage how they catch the cold or flu virus (pre-covid), and a large proportion of people couldn't give a stuff about anyone else. The amount of time I've seen people who have said 'I didn't want to re-schedule my appointment!' who have then passed it on to me. As I've mentioned before, there are many who cannot choose who gets on their bus, comes into their clinic , attends their hair salon etc.
So, whilst we all have choices, lots have less choices than others, and they are always the ones forgotten about.....or I suppose you could take the view of someone who I spoke to and was using the bus driver analogy ...'so what, they chose to drive the bus - they should just go and get another job!'

There are millions in zero hours contracts, low paid jobs, trying to do the right thing and get along, who will have no choice how they manage their risk due to the nature of their work.
