Maybe daily can be disposed of in terms of deaths until it becomes more significant, certainly as part of the daily news. No harm in having it published on a website for those who are interested. Monthly deaths or deaths as a %age of total mortality are probably more relevant numbers at the moment than the absolute figure. That said, there was "noise" when the figure was zero for one day, and the fact that we're at 37 does show "something". |

And like others I'm not sure you can expect people to take personal responsibility for something and then not give them the information they need to make responsible decisions. Not unless the idea is to get people to do what you want regardless of the consequences. |

They aren't going to stop publishing them, they are published for every country in the World. Whether we lead with the case numbers in news headlines is another matter |

To carry on with the testing effort but without posting results sounds like suppression. Unless you do away with testing altogether. Which would mean letting our guard down completely, which is obviously a daft proposition at this point when the scientists seem to think unlocking has just turned the country into a giant covid variant petri dish. Right wing halfwits might think it's all over - or at least they would have us believe it is - but we aren't out of the woods yet.

They do publish the data for flu etc, it's just not newsworthy. Weekly reports since 2013. gov.uk Other notifiable diseases: gov.uk |

I think that many people will get their only accurate information regarding CV19 from the news on tv which is a good argument for keeping it. The more it disappears into the background the less people will feel they need to do about it. The increase in daily cases, hospital admission and deaths that is being reported currently needs to be in the public eye.

To support the policy of 'living with it' the government will have to stop their fear campaign so I'd expect the data to have less prominence. Maybe the council will even remove all the fear porn signs from the playgrounds and lampposts. If I didn't have better things to do I'd remove them all myself.

The government stance has always been 'to protect the NHS' but the data that has been dropped from the news bulletins is the hospital admissions. I may have misquoted Dr Leonard in my earlier post as I'm sure she was referring to the constant reporting in news bulletins. Data will be recorded and published for those that want/know where to find it e.g. ONS. To me, personal responsibility, is doing what you feel is right to mitigate risks to you and those around you. We all take risks everyday but take steps to mitigate them e.g. looking & listening before crossing a road. So taking measures to reduce risk of catching/spreading C19 should be no different; with or without constant reporting of cases. |

westmoors, my concern is covid is invisible (largely) so very difficult to assess and manage risk, without someone explaining the numbers.
