I particularly miss the shading of zones on the Plot a Route map. I still get change of ownership notifications. Are there settings I need to change?

I’m 198th in the all time explorers list but can’t see anyone ahead of me until a very distant 100th place. I’m sure in the past I could see what was going on around me and it gave me a bit more of a challenge. Anyone any ideas?
