Gobi, that's pretty much how I decide what I'm wearing. :)

Well it was a glorious day today for my once a week commute...
and I was super organised and took clothes, snacks and drinks into work yesterday.

So I only needed a waist belt with security fob, office key, house key, and my 2 mobiles, plus a little cash.

I'd not been quite so organised, so it was full backpack with laptop, shoes, shirt, trousers, underwear, lunch, etc for my second commuting day. Couldn't really resist with the weather like this, though I'm not sure how sweltering it might be on the return leg. Set off a bit earlier than last time so that when I got into the more troublesome traffic areas it was all calm. First time out on a new set of wheels too - as expected, they are round and they roll, but (this might be my mind playing tricks).

Hmm interesting end to my post up there. Wheels might be comfier. Who knows?

My only snafu today was forgetting to stash my pass in my bag, so when I got in and was the only person around, I couldn't access my office! Fortunately the cleaner took pity on me, though I was gentlemanly enough to make sure no-one spotted me fully lycra'd up before I asked for any assistance!

I had to take a duffle bag and a backpack in today for boots, 3 days uniform, 3 days underwear, belt, lunch, battery pack and assorted keys/ID cards.

Suprisingly, nowhere near as awkward as bringing the dirty uniform and backpack home in the duffle that, with less in it to hold it, kept swinging in front of me every time I got out of the saddle!

Other than that, would have happily took a longer route home in the sun but I had to be back to put the little one to sleep and only had 10 mins grace.

Learned on the way home last night not to eat my lunch at 10:30am and then expect to be able to take on 29degC and a 12mph headwind all the way home for 90 minutes. 82 mins to get to work, 96 to get home. Still, saved £3.60 in tolls and similar in fuel so not all bad!

Nope, I decided against it today. Decided in this weather I'd keep the rain off by wearing a car to work.

About This Thread

Maintained by HappyG(rrr)
There is a nice thread about commuting to work by running, and there are loads of terrifying threads about bikes and cycling which are about carbon and grams of weight and lycra - not this one: how to dry your kit, how to carry/store your work clothes etc. and some bike specific stuff about best mudguards to minimize wet and dirt and maybe some stuff about cycle paths, safety, simple bike maintenance etc.

And if you declare yourself at the outset as:
A. Total bike head, train lots, do bike races/triathlons and the commute bit is just a way of getting extra miles in and is done at full bike training pace.
B. Bike for fitness (either with running as main sport or not) and like to do bike in lycra, at reasonable speed, certainly always shower necessary!

C. Bike is firstly a mode of transport, essential for the commute, sure a bit of fitness is good, but it's secondary. Safe, reliable and clean are the priorities.
