Ah-ha! FM. Same for me, and hadn't noticed (the yellow bit comes and goes if we've unread posts).
Yes, great tree SighLN. Educate me about the period of drying before restarting watering it? (I understand about the slicing the the bottom off -- to get rid of the hardened sap.)

Sigh-lent Night
@FS - when we bought the tree it was soaking wet from being outside in the rain, so we left it in the garage to let the foliage dry off.

Oh right. I thought it was a special trick to prevent needle drops.

I had to let ours dry before I dared power up the lights!
My best bit of tree-ness this year is putting them on a smart plug. "Alexa, turn on the tree lights!" gives me a lot of satisfaction!

Our 6 foot fully decorated tree was bought from Argos accidentally 24 years ago for £4.99!
Ishep and I lived in a tiny little flat, had very little money but I wanted a little tree, so had gone off to Argos to buy there cheapest offering, a boxed, with lights, £4.99 plastic tree. Bought, dropped off went to work... Came home that night and Ian has come home found it and was not impressed... We had discussed the purchase of the tree, the amount to spend etc... Couldn't beleive what I had done.
Argos had only labled the box wrong and given me a fully decorated 6 foot version, lights and all, for 4.99... he'd looked it up in the book and thought I'd spent much more!
Anyway, the following day, I took it back, racked with guilt that I hadn't noticed. I thought the picture on the side was just a misrepresentation, and they told me to keep it! We still use it now! ☺️

Minnie Mince Pie Mad
One year when I got my Christmas Sainsbury's delivery about 10 years ago I thought it was a bit cheaper than I expected and I looked on the receipt to see how much the Turkey had cost as I had ordered a medium one. The receipt said £2.39. I am guessing that even back then it should have been £23.99 so that was a real Christmas bargain! It paid for the gin 🍸

Mer-Rae Christmas
Echoing all the people saying that's a lovely story Christmas is all about traditions, really, isn't it.
I used to have... three (I think) black (artificial) trees, and had internalised my dad's objection to real trees (that you would still be finding the needles in October, mostly when they stab you in the for) but then Sam convinced me to go with a real one the first year we were out here and now I wouldn't have anything else. I think not having carpets helps, it's easier to clean up after you've taken the thing down.
Now we have a tradition of choosing a tree together, listening to festive music, drinking gluhwein and decorating, and that's when I start to feel properly Christmassy.
