I was so fed up with my Chester performance that I beasted myself over 8 miles of intervals this morning. Feel much better.

I did 7 hilly off road miles yesterday morning then in the eve ran 4 miles to and from body pump and did a body pump class - I am training for an ultra in Switzerland so hills on tired legs is good! Legs were actaully OK yesterday but that was because I didnt push things on Monday

I had an utter nightmare at Chester ... my pace was very sensible for the first half but I started to melt down shortly after the turn around. Total meltdown came not much later. I don't know how I got to the end ... it was utter hell.
Bit confused with what happened ... my heart rate data for first half is odd, suggesting that I was running much faster than I actually was. My pace from 3-12 miles was 8:12 m/m at 145 bpm ... it should have been around 135 bpm at that pace... I usually run at 7:20 m/m at 145 bpm. My son had been exhausted the day before and ended up with a temperature at night. He was up screaming with freaky nightmares and I got very little sleep as a result ... I felt tired but okay on race morning but now think I must have picked up the virus as well as I'm struggling with a bad throat today. Dunno. Weird run... not something I want to experience ever again.

Not a heart rate expert, but have a little marathon experience. Sometimes you just have a shit day for no apparent reason. If you were coming down with a virus too then that would be further explanation. The way I would deal with it is run to heart rate / perceived effort rather than pace. It might mean you need to bin your target time but it helps you get round without having an awful run. Well done on getting through it.

DrDan - Ditto what Naomi says Naomi - don't feel fed up with your time. It's only just over a fortnight since you finished 10-in-10. It takes most people that long to begin to recover from 1 marathon, never mind 10 !

our biggest demons are our head and thinking
the next i think is prep - IE hydration
and of course how much physical pain is one prepared to take - peeps are afraid of pain at times , quite understandable - but they need not be
