Awwww lovely cats. Lasya is illusive! I cannot afford the heating on during the day so she has been under the duvet all day. Just turned the heating on, having come in from sorting/cutting/stacking logs and the petrol station and putting up outside xmas lights. She did ask to be let out at some point but freezing temperatures and flutterings of snow and constant drizzle made her return instantly. The whole exercise of her going out and back in sucked what little heat was in the house right out ššš Just as well we love them!

Lovely, new cats!
Would welcome a bit of advice here if anyone has any
Mabel (10) seems to have suddenly become quite aggressive towards Trudy (6). No idea why, but at the weekend she spotted Trudy pottering in the garden (normal occurrence) went absolutely mental and chased her off over the fence. There is another black cat and thought maybe mistaken identity (!)
Luckily Trudy is a fairly relaxed cat and came back in of her own accord after 5 mins.
Since then there has been a bit of staring at and chasing of Trudy from Mabel - something doesnāt seem quite right although physically she seems fine.
If I sense a stare off / pounce episode happening I try and just block Mabelās view of Trudy so she gets distracted and then nothing happens. Itās not like they are fighting all the time or anything and they do play fight and sleep a few meters apart, but when this happens it seems a bit next level and strange. I wonder if Mabel is somehow unwell and thatās how itās presenting.
Iām thinking wait and watch a bit and maybe get the vet to check Mabel?
Thanks, love a fretful cat parent

Fragile Do Not Bend
You could try some Feliway to see if that helps? Otherwise maybe treat them as you would if one was new to the household - keeping them separate for a bit but swapping bedding to mix their scents etc.

I'm a bit sceptical about Feliway as a result of reading http://whatyourcatwants.com/feliway. I think I'd rather spend the money that I might have used on plug diffusers, etc on enrichment and vertical space, as the author suggests in a blog.

Thanks both. Itās just weird that itās started so suddenly seemingly off of one thing on Saturday. Iām really hoping that was that, and it will calm down as time passes.
Iām probably more bothered than they are.

random thought .... could Trudy have acquired another smell from somewhere? house visits or other cats that is making Mabel feel threatened?
Or indeed is Mabel's eye an issue if the first incident was at a distance?
Very confusing one - I hope they make friends again quickly

Thanks. I speak with the neighbours a fair bit and Trudy is likely too skittish to be visiting anywhere else indoors (the lady right next door wants to āpet and loveā her but she runs off as soon as their back door is opened. š )
Trudy usually only goes out for about 30 mins a day in the cold (to patrol and poop in neighbours gardens) it might be possible she has picked up a scent / rubbed noses or played with another cat outside she doesnāt seem to mind them. Mabel definitely minds imposter cats. She barely goes out.
Maybe itās just taking Mabel a few days to come back down off the ceiling from whatever triggered her. Like I say they arenāt killing each other or fighting all the time but when Mabel gets the kill stare and chase itās quite worrying and a new one on us - after almost 1 year of having them

One of ours has funny turns when she suddenly gets aggressive (beyond play fighting) towards the other and then reverts to normal with no indication as to why. These donāt last more than a day and she hasnāt done it for a while. I used to try and protect the other cat but now try and let them get on with it - not always easy!

Could it be that Mabel was approached aggressively by a stranger cat outside? It might have upset her to temporarily not tolerate Trudy either?
