4 - 6 weeks. Same as any break. It depends on the injury as to the pot but whatever the treatment, the recovery time is the same.

Running Fish
did mine a few years back. went to a+e for x-ray and diagnosis, but other than advice to be non-weight bearing for 6 weeks was left to my own ends. bought myself an air cast, (rooney boot), that meant i could use an exercise bike straight away. then progressed to elliptic trainer after about 4 weeks. then running after 5 weeks. was in training for a marathon at the time, so quick recovery was important.

think the rooney boot cost about £100 from memory.

Son of a Pronator Man
A stress frature put me out of the Amsterdam marathon last year. They didn't give me a boot, as they said it would not help healing and would impair other things like walking ( i could hobble) and driving ( I needed to).
Did a lot of swimming while it healed. The only positive thing to think is that after about 6 weeks it will heal, some other injuries like tendonitis seem to go on and on.

F - my mum did hers 20 years ago and again 4 weeks ago. They didnt plaster her this time as they said to rest and use it gently to aid healing. Not a very sensible thing to say to my mum as when she stopped having pain after a week she stopped using her crutches! We then got a phone call saying that she was in plaster because the fracture had opened up and was now worse than when she first did it :-(. She just didnt listen to me and my dad about taking things carefully - she is annoyed with herself as this has put her training for London (good for age for FV60) back.

I broke my 2nd metatarsal in a race at the end of July this year. Was put in pot for 6 weeks as it was a complete fracture, I was 3 weeks out of pot before I was allowed to drive and ditch the crutches. I've been able to swim and cycle for 3 weeks now but have another x-ray on 2nd Nov to get the ok to run again. If I get the all clear I'll have gone 15 weeks without running. It's driving me mad. Good luck with your healing.
