I'm off for a solo trip to Bristol tomorrow, and aside from a few activities (see Clifton Suspension Bridge, Brunel's Ship, visit the Aquarium) I'm stuck for ways to fill my time. So I'm seeing if the Fetch Hive Mind can assist Does anyone have recommendations for things to do, places to go for lunches, and places to go for evening meals as a Billy No-Mates? Must be walkable from the city centre. |

It depends how you define both walkable and city centre, I guess? There's the leaning tower of the templar church, the museum and gallery, the zoo, Cabot Tower, the Matthew... is Explore @Bristol still a thing? |

Good point. I'm staying in a hotel on Bond Street, and walkable I would say anything in around a 4-5 mile radius? But obviously the closer in, the better

All of those things should be doable, then There's the observatory by the suspension bridge, too, and I've always enjoyed a wander around St Nicholas markets, though I've not been there for a long time,it might have been decimated by covid |

Are you much of a mountain biker JK? Some really good trails at Ashton Court and Leigh Woods to the West of the city centre. I have walked that but it's a bit of a way. They do bike hire too. pedalprogression.com

Depends what you enjoy doing/seeing. You have already identified the *unique* Bristol sights: the Clifton Suspension Bridge and the SS Great Britain. The Great Britain really is a top-class museum and merits a couple of hours. Beyond that, the harbourside is a good place to chill and watch the world go by. Rae's Explore@ has, I think, gone, but there's the M Shed, a museum of local life and history which currently houses the toppled Edward Colston statue and that is right on the harbourside. Plenty of places to eat and drink there too. |

@Bristol rebranded itself as wethecurious.org - it's still going, right next to the aquarium. For lunch do yourself a favour and try Eat a Pitta https://www.eatapitta.co.uk/, at various locations. |

Bristol Museum is good, used to be free. Might be some good gigs on. Cabot Tower is lovely and the park itself is nice. The downs/suspension bridge/Cumberland basin is good. If you're city centre based and like maps check out stanfords map shop. The local buses are a bit weird and expensive, but they at least do payment by card these days so useful if you want to get a bus back from somewhere like Cabot tower. I quite like the local trains too for getting around. There's a parkrun in Eastville Park (closest station probably Stapleton Rd) and Ashton Court (bus only I suspect) if you happen to be there on a Saturday and fancy it. Neither are flat surprisingly. |
